<p>Leicester captain Jamie Vardy will leave the 2016 <a href="https://mid-day.com/sports/football/article/gunners-grant-reds-a-date-with-destiny-23526546" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener"><strong>Premier League</strong></a> champions at the end of the season, the relegated club announced on Thursday.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The 38-year-old forward &mdash; a key member of the team that lifted the English league title against all odds in 2016 &mdash; was described by the club as &ldquo;our greatest-ever player&rdquo;.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The former <a href="https://mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/i-still-get-flashbacks-at-night-andrew-flintoff-after-car-crash-23525806" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener"><strong>England</strong></a> international joined the Foxes in 2012 from non-league side Fleetwood Town and has scored 198 goals in 435 appearances. Vardy said he was &lsquo;devastated&rsquo; to be leaving, but added that the time was right.&nbsp;</p>
<p>&ldquo;To the fans of Leicester, I&rsquo;m gutted that this day is coming, but I knew it was going to come eventually,&rdquo; he said in a video posted by Leicester on social media. &nbsp;He said he had made memories &lsquo;that will last a lifetime&rsquo; and that the club had become his &lsquo;second home.&rsquo;</p>
<p>Vardy, however, made it a point to note that he&rsquo;s not saying goodbye to football just yet. &ldquo;I want to keep playing and doing what I enjoy doing most, scoring goals. I might be 38, but I&rsquo;ve still got the desire and ambition to achieve so much more,&rdquo; he added.&nbsp;</p>
