Afghanistan's premier all-rounder <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/asia-cup-2025-gulbadin-naib-hopeful-of-winning-title-to-bring-joy-to-the-nation-23594633" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Gulbadin Naib</a> heaped praise on Team India by saying that it is the best side in Asia as well we the world.
He had previously shared the dressing room with the Indian players during the Indian Premier League (IPL), and said that he has always enjoyed learning from them.
"<a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/asia-cup-2025-team-india-fielding-coach-t-dilip-opens-up-on-fielding-challenges-in-dubai-23594604" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">India</a> is the best team in Asia and in world, you get to learn a lot from these boys," Naib told ANI.
"I have shared dressing room with them in the IPL and all the games we have played against them, we had great experience. We cannot say anybody is a favourite in T20 cricket, the team that plays well will win. Still, if you look at the paper, India is the best team," he added.
The all-rounder has been a part of the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/lsg-vs-dc-ipl-2025-delhi-capitals-count-on-openers-to-deliver-after-opting-to-bowl-first-against-high-flying-lucknow-23524677" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Delhi Capitals</a> (DC) in the IPL and has featured in two matches.
Further, he also said that in T20 cricket, any player can change the course of the game and the shortest format being entertaining, everybody wants to do something for their team.
"In T20 cricket, one player can change the course of the game, whether it's from the top order, middle order or the lower order, or it's a spinner, any player on their day can change the game. That game will go that way. I think T20 cricket is entertainment cricket, so everybody wants to do something for the country," said Naib.
In an excellent exhibition of spin and some fantastic death overs bowling by Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman, Bangladesh scored a nail-biting eight-run win over Afghanistan in their <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/asia-cup-2025-pakistan-pacer-haris-rauf-opens-up-on-delayed-start-against-uae-23594600" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Asia Cup 2025</a> clash at Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.
The Afghans are all set to lock horns against Sri Lanka on September 18 in the Asia Cup 2025 clash at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium.
With Sri Lanka and Bangladesh having four points each, the race for the top teams to the 'Super Four' intensifies.
So far, Afghanistan has two points to its name. If the Afghans manage to secure victory over Sri Lanka on Thursday, the qualification of two teams for the 'Super Four' will come down to net run-rate.
