The long-awaited integrated double-decker flyover at the busy junction near Savitribai Phule Pune University was opened to the public on Sunday. The project is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion on the University Road corridor connecting Baner, Aundh, Pashan and Shivajinagar. The integrated structure has been developed alongside the upcoming Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro Line 3.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who virtually inaugurated the flyover during a ceremony held in the city, recalled the role played by then deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar in pushing the project forward, noting that the earlier flyover was demolished during the COVID-19 period to make way for the integrated structure.
