Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar faced protests with a group of people raising &lsquo;go back&rsquo; slogans and showing &lsquo;black flags&rsquo; to him following his visit to <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/west-bengal-row-over-lapses-during-president-droupad-murmus-visit-23619917" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">West Bengal</a> on Tuesday morning over alleged arbitrary deletions in the post-SIR electoral rolls in the state.

The CEC arrived in Kolkata for a series of meetings with political parties and senior administrative officials to review Bengal&rsquo;s poll preparedness. Kumar said the election commission will finalise the state&rsquo;s election schedule, including the number of phases it would vote in, after the panel returns to <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/us-israel-attack-iran-opposition-flags-lpg-shortage-in-country-demands-debate-in-parliament-23620186" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Delhi</a>.
He promised that no eligible voter&rsquo;s name would be removed and asserted that the EC&rsquo;s priority was to ensure free, fair, and peaceful polls in the state.
