CCTV helps trap cat killer in Mumbai's Malad

The police have booked a Malad resident for throwing a pet cat from the 9th floor of a high-rise building, resulting in its death. While the owner of ‘Kalu’, who found her body in the society compound, initially thought she had been hit by a vehicle, CCTV cameras revealed that Kasam Sayyed, who was waiting for the elevator, spotted Kalu sitting on a shoe rack near the window, picked her up and hurled her out.

The cat’s owner, Gurjan Mohammad Umar Shamshi, 45, resides on the 21st floor of GrowMore Onyx Society, located in Malwani, Malad West. The accused, Kasam Sayyed, lives on the 9th floor of the same building. According to the police, the incident took place between 6.30 pm to 6.45 pm on June 5.
Speaking with mid-day, Shamshi said, “Kalu, who was 15 months old, was born in the society where we previously resided and we had been taking care of her since. Every evening, she would go outside and return after some time. On June 5, Kalu left home around 6.30 pm, and by 6.45 pm, we found her body lying on the ground floor. We tried to save her, but she died owing to multiple injuries.”
