Community-led efforts and forest department protection help release 1.71 lakh hatchlings in 2024-25, while the 2025-26 nesting season records 1182 nests so far across Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg

The annual nesting of Olive Ridley sea turtles along Maharashtra’s Konkan coastline continues to show encouraging results, driven largely by conservation efforts involving forest officials and coastal communities.
Data from the 2024-25 nesting season (November-May) recorded 2929 nests and 2,74,842 eggs across beaches in Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts. From these, 1,71,245 hatchlings successfully emerged and were released into the Arabian Sea, marking an overall hatching success rate of 62 per cent.
